Meet JD, Head of Production at Limber Prosthetics

Joseph “JD” DeStefani serves as Head of Production at Limber Prosthetics, where he plays a critical role in keeping day-to-day operations running seamlessly. With a background spanning engineering and manufacturing, JD brings a hands-on approach to everything he does, ensuring that what Limber builds delivers real results for those who rely on it.

A Path Built on Curiosity and Experience

JD grew up in Northern California, with Morgan Hill as his home base, and spent much of his life in the Bay Area. His early interest in healthcare shifted to engineering after discovering a passion for understanding how things work. He went on to study electronics and later earned a Bachelor’s in Manufacturing Design Engineering, launching his career in the semiconductor industry as a Product Support Engineer, where he gained hands-on experience traveling and working across multiple companies.

Finding Purpose in Medical Devices

JD’s career took a pivotal turn after relocating to San Diego, where he joined a startup medical device company. It was there that his perspective shifted from building technology to building products that directly impact people’s lives.

“Making products that help people felt amazing. I never had that kind of feeling working in the tech sector.”

That sense of purpose has guided his career ever since.  From small, 7-person teams to large multi thousands employee companies, JD has continued to build his career within the medical device space and is always fulfilled by the ability to help others.

A Dynamic Role at Limber

At Limber, JD’s role extends far beyond a traditional operations title. As Head of Production and Operations Manager, he oversees everything from equipment and manufacturing processes to supply chain, logistics, quality systems, and regulatory efforts. No two days look the same—his responsibilities are constantly evolving to meet the needs of the business. That adaptability, combined with his willingness to step in wherever needed, plays a critical role in keeping operations running smoothly and enabling the team to scale.

Driven by Impact

For JD, the most meaningful part of his work is seeing the direct impact on patients. After years in industries where results were less tangible, the immediacy of patient feedback has been transformative.

“When an amputee tells you, ‘it feels like I have my original leg back,’ you know your work is making a difference.”

That impact extends beyond individual moments—it’s something felt across the entire team, reinforcing the purpose behind everything Limber builds.

Building and Scaling for the Future

JD has already played a key role in advancing Limber’s product development and operational capabilities. Among his accomplishments is the creation of the UniLeg’s Bumper System (patent pending), as well as leading critical quality and regulatory efforts, including successfully navigating early FDA audit milestones.

Looking ahead, his focus is on growth—both in production and accessibility.

“I want every below-knee amputee to own and benefit from the UniLeg… this is a globally available prosthesis that can benefit all users.”

As Limber continues to grow, JD is focused on scaling operations to meet increasing demand while maintaining the quality and impact that define the company’s work. From facility expansion to increased production output, the next phase presents new opportunities to reach more patients.

“If you want it, go get it, whatever it takes. Figure it out.” That mindset drives JD’s approach every day—solving problems, supporting the team, and delivering products that make a real difference. The prosthetics industry extends beyond delivering exceptional care; it requires the right people to bring a mission to life. Limber is proud to have JD on our team as we work to redefine what’s possible for both clinicians and patients.
